Old Dogs

Role: Identity, Branding Packaging,
Web Design & Illustration
The Old Dogs concept was envisioned when the founders, Tina Mavery and Jessie Brachuk, noticed how lonely they felt during the holidays if they couldn’t make it back to the prairies to visit their families. The founders’ vision was to establish an identity system, website, and environment that reflected a visual language based on their families' traditional recipes. The resulting identity revolves around the concept of a ‘bucolic country lifestyle,’ playing on the connection between vintage farm feed sack typography, patterns, and a simple, natural color palette. The core component of the identity is the dual color palette, accompanied by a series of retro, clipart-inspired illustrations and patterns that aim to evoke a sense of prairie nostalgia.

colour palette

The Old Dogs color palette has been developed around post-modern 1960s rich desert hues. During the 1960s, cream was a hugely popular color, and when combined with a variation of burnt sienna, it creates an inviting palette. Both colors were inspired by Mod motifs, as well as the psychedelic fabrics and wallpapers used during this specific decade. The bright orange is a more vivid variation of the decade's popular burnt sienna. It’s no surprise that this color is associated with dirt, desert, and the natural earth.
